more sad news

A student, Travis Brison, was killed in a car accident on his way home for break. Apparently he fell asleep at the wheel about an hour from home. This is crushing.

what is good about goodbye

It is hitting me how many people are retiring or leaving Valpo. President Harre, Chief Lloyd, Deaconess Williams, and more. The CIO for VU has resigned to take another job as well as Prof Morgan to go to Duke. Lots of goings, lots of transition. There is happiness in their starting a new phase or taking the next step in a journey, however they will be missed!

committees

For the past few weeks, I have been involved in a couple new committees or participating on committees in a new way. The biggest privilege is serving on the Presidential Support committee. This committee plans the University President candidates' visits. The search is going quick and they will be on campus before we know it. Second, was participating in interviewing the new executive chef for campus. It is exciting to think about the possibilities for Valpo with a chef on staff. Then I have also filled in as chair of the External Marketing Committee while a friend is on maternity leave. So, now I'm involved with the behind the scenes. I enjoy being able to work with a variety of people. All this activity prevents me from getting in a rut...but is keeping me busy too!

Going through a transition takes a lot of patience and flexibility. I find that most people lack both.

There he is, my fire-fighter. The costume was great for the unpredictable weather we get in Indiana this time of year: weather proof, warm, headgear and flashlight included. It only needed a fire extinguisher!
